The starting point at Paradise is 5,400 ft.
Camp Muir is at the 10,180 ft level of
Mt Rainier.

A great day for January 1st.
Lots of rain made for hard
pack conditions below
7,000 ft.

As you can see, the ice
like conditions called for
crampons for the entire
trip, up and back, from
Camp Muir.

Also to our surprise, there
was a new solar powered
bathroom. We really need
to visit the 10,180 ft  camp
more often.

We did manage to get in the
cabin, but it was half full of
snow. Some kind climber had dug out a path to the
radio.
If the door is  left open  ( even
a little ) during the winter,
the cabin fills with snow.

  New Permit

There is now a new entrance permit. Just past
the ranger booth stands a box that looks like a bank teller machine, that takes the entrance fee.The pass is printed on cheap .004 thick
paper. Tip:  Don't laminate the pass
with a plastic. The paper doesn't
stand up to the heat that is used to melt
the plastic together!
If you get a pass
good for 12 months, turn it in at
the ranger staion for a .012 thick card
pass

Below is a composite picture
of the view from Camp Muir
looking south to Mt Adams
and Mt St Helens.
