WOW!! WE HAVE 260 COSPONSORS TO Rep. McKeon BILL H R 147.

SEN. FEINSTEIN’S COMPANION BILL S. 619 HAS 18 COSPONSORS

CAN WE TRY AGAIN?

If you live in the districts of any of the following representatives, please try again to call his/her office and ask them to cosponsor Rep. McKeon repeal bill H R 147. In fact, I am annoyed enough to suggest a weekly call and ask for a written explanation how they can justify spending our tax dollars on  pork projects or billions in foreign aid, but not repeal the laws that penalize us for working in the public sector.  Go through the newsletters and use the facts provided to defend your right to receive your earned Social Security.  Remind them SENIORS VOTE!!!

I have found comical the recent Senate Republicans demand for an up or down vote on the President’s judicial nominees.  They should know how we have asked for years that bills be allowed to leave the Ways and Means subcommittee and be given an up or down vote in the House.  Maybe you can mention that in your calls or letters. Ask our Representatives to follow the principles of DEMOCRACY and allow H R 147 OUT OF COMMITTEE to floor of the House for a DEMOCRACTIC VOTE.

JEAN SCHMIDT GOES TO WASHINGTON

I have carefully reviewed the backgrounds of the 11 Republican candidates running in the June 14th primary to fill Rob Portman’s seat in the House and decided Jean Schmidt is definitely my choice.  The Democrats have five candidates running.

WHY JEAN ?

Because she is a former teacher

Four years as a State Representative

Eleven years as a Miami Township Trustee.

She has the endorsement of

   Greater Cincinnati Right to Life

   Ohio Taxpayers Association

  Ohio Small Business

  Clermont County Republican Party

On May 29th Jean came to my home for a meeting to discuss the GPO/WEP.  At the meeting Noel Stephenson, PERI and Nellie Hope, NARFE and Bill DeRemer, retired Cincinnati firefighter were in attendance.  I asked Jean if we supported her candidacy will she cosponsor H R 147 and work on our behalf to repeal the GPO/WEP.  She said “YES”. Why do I believe her, because she realizes that as a former teacher and also under PERS she is affected by these laws when she retires unless they are repealed.  I asked her to put her promise in writing and she agreed to do it.

Dear Eileen,

Thank you for allowing me to met with the representatives of the local retired public employees associations on Sunday.  I appreciated learning more about your issues and concerns.

I agree that we must remove the unfair penalties imposed on public service retirees who are entitled to their own Social Security benefits or the benefits of their spouse.  I promise to work to remove these penalties and I will support Rep. McKeon’s legislation HR 147

The special primary election is less than two weeks from today.  I ask for your support on June 14th.  Please feel free to contact me for additional information or questions you may have.

Again, thanks for the opportunity to meet with you to discuss this most important issue.

Sincerely,

Jean Schmidt

Jean Schmidt’s Agenda:

Restrain federal spending --- supports President Bush’s plan for a permanent tax relief

;;; Supports our troops----protect our national interests at home and abroad

…Less dependent on foreign sources of energy

…Married over 29 years---passed legislation to protect our children from sexual predators, opposes abortion

JEAN HAS MY VOTE AND I SINCERELY HOPE YOU WILL VOTE FOR HER. PLEASE ASK YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS AND HAVE THEM ASK THEIR FRIENDS TO VOTE FOR JEAN SCHMIDT FOR CONGRESS.

To VOTE ON JUNE 14th you must live in the eastern part of Hamilton County, southern part of Warren County, in Clermont, Brown, Adams, Pike, and Scioto Counties. Please let us make our vote count because we have a winner in Jean Schmidt.

  MORE  HEARINGS  ON  SOCIAL  SECURITY

The new chairman of the Ways and Means subcommittee on Social Security, Rep. Jim McCrery (R-LA) has had three hearings in May to discuss protecting and strengthening Social Security.  Only members of the House were allowed to give oral testimony.  However, individuals or organizations were allowed to submit written statements for consideration on their opinion as to how Social Security can be saved. The subcommittee would consider including their contributions for the printed record of the hearing.  Last May when Rep. Shaw had a similar hearing on Social Security I submitted documents to repeal GPO/WEP on behalf of Offset/Windfall.

The Ways and Means committee was created in 1789, the oldest standing committee in Congress.  The members have broad jurisdiction on critical matters such as Economic policies, International trade, Welfare, Medicare and Health Care Policy and Social Security.  Rep. Bill Thomas, (R-CA) was elected chairman of this committee in January 2001.

TOTALIZATION AGGREEMENT WITH MEXICO

In my previous newsletter I explained our country has a totalization agreement with 20 other counties.  A totalization agreement was signed with Japan on Feb.19, 2004 and with Mexico on June 29th.  The agreement ensures workers who spend part of their careers in another country, pay into that country’s retirement fund they are entitled to benefits in whichever country they decide to retire.  Currently about 15 million is paid each month to about 94, 000 recipients according to a CRS report to Congress.  Because of the number of Mexicans here, if amnesty is given, the drain on the SS fund would be unbelievable.

Rep. Goode’s resolution prevents the totalization with Mexico from becoming law.

                                                 H.CON.RES.50

                                     IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

                                                   February 9, 2005

“Expressing disapproval by the Congress of the totalization agreement between the United States and Mexico signed by the Commissioner of Social Security and the Director General of the Mexican Social Security Institute on June 29, 2004.

Whereas a totalization agreement between the United States and Mexico negatively impacts the Social Security system of the United States and put America’s seniors at risk: Whereas such agreement awaits final approval by the President and transmittal to the Congress and is not effective prior to such approval and transmittal: Now, therefore, be it

Resolved by the House of Representatives (the Senate concurring), That it is sense of the Congress that—

(1)   the President should immediately disapprove the totalization agreement signed by the Commissioner of Social Security and the Director of the Mexican Social Security Institute on June 29, 2004 and refrain from transmitting such agreement to the Congress:

(2)   the Commissioner of Social Security should withdraw from any further negotiations with Mexico relating to totalization arrangement between the United States and Mexico.”

Rep. Goode’s resolution had 25 original cosponsors he now has 50 cosponsors.

QUICKIE COMMENTS

My daughter-in-law is a teacher in a local school system.  They were asked by the NEA to sign a petition to the President opposing any effort to privatize Social Security and to   reject a federal mandate for public employees to participate in Social Security.  The petition asked that the G PO and W E P be repealed.

Gov. Taft and others in the Ohio General Assembly had a bright idea recently.  Let’s put all the public school employees under one health plan.  So my dear daughter-in-law and other public school employees boarded a bus to Columbus last Friday met with our elected legislators and convinced them that was a bad idea……plan was dropped.

NOW YOU KNOW WHY WE NED TO BE VERY CAREFUL WHO WE ELECT TO REPRESENT US.  YOUR VOTE IS VALUABLE USE IT WISELY.
