The interview below was held on August 15^th with Paula Toti, a reporter with our local CBS T.V. station.  I interviewed for approximately an hour and she did try to include some of my quotes in the 90 second spot.  This is my third interview with Paula and in the live broadcast she included pictures from my previous interviews

The one strong point I wanted to make was public employees obey our laws, use our own Social Security numbers and yet Congress continues to ignore our plea to repeal the GPO/WEP. The SENATE in May 2006 passed S. 2611 forgiving illegals for breaking our immigration laws and knowingly using stolen SS numbers. What are our senators telling us?  Ask Senators. DeWine and Voinovich  why they signed S. 2611 and WILL NOT SIGN S. 619 to repeal the GPO/WEP?

If Sen. DeWine tells you he has cosponsored Sen. Feinstein’s  repeal bill S. 619 ask why HE WAITED UNTIL JULY 21^ST 2006---  THREE MONTHS BEFORE HIS BID FOR REELECTION TO SIGN THE BILL  WHEN THAT BILL WAS FIRST INTRODUCED July 2001   Hmmmmmmmmmm???????????

In the HOUSE Rep. Sensenbrenner a proven leader for the American citizen introduced his bill H.R. 4437;

Title: “To Amend to Strengthen Enforcement of the Immigration Laws, To Enhance Border Security and for Other Purposes.  Bill was referred  1-27-06 to Senate Committee; further referred to the Committee on the Judiciary.”

Ask your representative if they have cosponsored this bill let me know and I will print their name in the October election newsletter.

SHHSHHH  THE   POWERS  TO  BE  IN  THE  SENATE  DO  NOT  WANT YOU  TO  KNOW…………..

Senate bill 2590 introduced  by Sens. Coburn and Obama would allow taxpayers to see how their money is being spent.  If any senator objects the information on the bill is withheld.  On August 18, 2006 I asked Senators DeWine and Voinovich in an e-mail if they cosponsored this bill.  I am still waiting.  “Alaska Republican Ted Stevens admitted Wednesday he used a parliamentary maneuver to secretly block legislation that would open federal spending practices to public scrutiny”  Rebecca Carr, Cox News 8-31-06.

Sen. Stevens introduces millions in PORK each year.  Has the SENATE lost the meaning of DEMOCRACY AND THEIR RESPONSIBILITY TO THEIR VOTERS?

THE  COST  OF  LIVING  (COLA)

There is a proposal in Congress H.R. 3601 that would have our COLA determined by a Consumer Price Index for the Elderly (CPI-E) instead of the regular Consumer Price Index that measures the spending habits of the younger generation.  The figures tell Congress our rate of inflation. In 1978 I worked for the CPI called on stores to measure price changes on goods. The items I had to select did not include what an older person would buy. Our own COLA would be better for us.

Call and tell them “THANK  YOU”  for caring.  To be fair hundreds of bills are introduced in Congress each year so it is possible your representative is not aware of H.R. 3601. Call their office and ask to speak with their legislative assistant. If after educating their legislative assistant on this bill be very specific that you want an answer from your representative, DID HE/SHE cosponsored the bill and the date.  Send that information to me for the Oct. newsletter. Tell the assistant what you plan to do. 

“A NATIONWIDE  SOCIAL  SECURITY  COLA  PROTEST”   

That is the title of the SENIOR LEAGUE article, a group that watches over us and tries to help in the halls of democracy…….Congress.  Our elected men and women promise to protect us but instead listen to economists that say SS and other government programs are overpaid.  They feel the CPI overstates the rate of inflation. The Congressional Budget Office cites COLA cuts as one option to reduce SS costs. I bet the guys who want to cut SS and COLA have a six figure income. 

May 1,2006 Social Security Trustees Report  is not good news for us.

·        Since 2002 Medicare part B has increased by about 13%

·        In the same period COLA increased around 2.6%

·        Medicare Part B premiums will increase at least 11% in 2007

·        Benefits will only rise by about 2.3% in 2007

·        For the first time Medicare Part B premiums will be determined by income under $80,000 seniors will pay about $98.20

·        projected revenues which will fall below costs comes in 20017

·        projection the Trust Fund will be exhausted 20040 1 year earlier

·        over the 75 year period the Trust Funds will require revenue equivalent to $4.6 trillion in today’s dollars---$600 billion higher than last years estimate

Last year the President and many Members of Congress said Social Security was in such dire financial conditions benefits would have to be cut to make the program solvent. So why has the SENATE passed a bill S.2611 that would allow illegals SS?  According to the Social Security’s Inspector General an Immigrant who has a work-authorized number can receive work credits whether earned legally or illegally and apply those credits to their SS account.  They would also be eligible to get family benefits totally thousands of dollars. What happen to the oath senators take to “to defend the constitution” a document written to protect the citizens of the United States?    They agreed “to faithfully discharge the duties of the office”  Am I reaching I don’t think so because we pay their salaries, their medical, retirement while they promised to protect us “against all enemies foreign and domestic”

“It makes no sense to reward millions of illegal immigrants for criminal behavior while our Social Security system is already in crisis” said Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC).  BUT Sen. Leahy (D-VT) said “We should not steal their funds or empty their Social Security accounts.  That is not fair.”  I say to Sen. Leahy denying teachers, police, firefighters, and government workers their earned Social Security “That is not fair”..

EXCUSE  ME  I SAID WHEN SOCIAL SECURITY SENT ME THAT LETTER THAT GIVES US CHEST PAINS.

 WE ARE WRITING TO GIVE YOU NEW INFORMATION ABOUT THE WIDOW’S BENEFITS WHICH YOU RECEIVE ON THIS SOCIAL SECURITY RECORD.

·        HOW WE PAID YOU $3.00 TOO MUCH IN BENEFITS

·        WHAT TO DO IF YOU THINK WE ARE WRONG

The letter came late Friday so Monday morning (after my electricity was restored and I could drive my car out of the garage) I tried to remain calm driving to the SS office.  I saw again the lady that subtracted my $3.00 from my $3.87 cost of living  on July 5^th the first possible day I could report my “WINDFALL”.  I HAVE POINTED OUT IN PREVIOUS NEWSLETTERS WHEN YOU REPORT YOUR COLA ASK THE SS WORKER TO SIGN THEIR NAME, THE DATE AND USE THE SS OFFICE  STAMP.   If you get a hard time ask to speak to the manager.  Mrs.T was very nice and agreed I had followed the rules.  I was referred to another lady for final approval to waiver the overpayment.  When I tried to show the next lady my SERS statement and that it was signed etc she ignored me and pointed to a stack of papers in front of her.  I soon discovered she was deaf and the young man sitting near me was translating what I was saying in words and sign language.  Yes I was not happy as she was refusing to accept my records.  Bottom line I said I would not accept the penalty since it was NOT my fault and I was willing to take it to the next step.  That of course would mean time, money and a hearing by SS.  She finally agreed to a waiver and I asked the young man to be sure she understood as I did not want to return next month.   Are we getting too much in a COLA?

Before I left I asked Mrs. T if when we report the  information is it placed into the system immediately or put on file.  She said she puts it into the computer that day but “the computer accepted it out and information had to be sent to the program center to be   resubmitted” (I bet the computer couldn’t believe the $3.00 COLA was correct)

I wish our elected officials would realize the stress and worry we experience before and during retirement often affects one’s physical health.

While talking with Mrs. T I asked her how a non citizen can obtain a SS number. The requirements for a non-citizen to apply for a Social Security number is found in publication No. 05-10096, December 2005.

We know in October 1998 Congress passed “THE IDENTITY THEFT AND ASSUMPTION DETERRANCE ACT  specifically making it a federal crime to knowingly steals some ones identity.”   See the July newsletter for the full law.

We know illegals use stolen Social Security Numbers.

Therefore did the SENATORS who passed S.2611 giving illegals Social Security go  against this “Identity” law that Congress passed in October 1998? 

ASK SENATORS VOINOVICH,  DEWINE AND YOUR SENATORS IN OTHER STATES WHO VOTED FOR S. 2611 HOW THEY CAN JUSTIFY THEIR VOTE?

I would love to know their answer.

Tell your family and friends how their Social Security will be impacted in the years to come and encourage them to also call and write their representatives and senators.
